Checkout.com has signed a strategic partnership with Spotify, allowing the global digital payments provider to handle acquiring services for the world’s largest audio streaming subscription platform. The move aims to strengthen Spotify’s payment infrastructure and improve the experience for its more than 700 million monthly active users, including over 280 million paying subscribers worldwide.
Under the agreement, Checkout.com will provide acquiring services in more than 180 countries, using its local market presence and global payments expertise to optimise transaction performance in every region where Spotify operates. The partnership focuses on delivering seamless, secure, and reliable payment processing to support Spotify’s rapidly expanding global audience.
“Our aim is to deliver a seamless, simple, and safe payment experience so that our users can focus on enjoying the music, podcasts, and audiobooks they find on Spotify,” said Sandra Alzetta, Spotify’s vice president and global head of payments and customer service. “Partnering with Checkout.com enables us to leverage their global reach, local expertise, and the ability to optimise payment performance at scale.”
As part of the integration, Spotify will deploy Checkout.com’s Intelligent Acceptance solution, an AI-driven technology designed to route transactions in real time, reduce payment failures, and improve overall acceptance rates. The platform also incorporates Network Tokens and advanced authentication services, which strengthen security and ensure uninterrupted recurring payments for subscribers.
Guillaume Pousaz, CEO and founder of Checkout.com, said the partnership marks a key milestone for the company. “Spotify sets the standard for digital experiences for creators and fans across the world, and payments play a critical role in delivering that. By combining our global acquiring network with Intelligent Acceptance – which performs 87 million real-time optimisations daily – we’re helping maximise acceptance rates, reduce costs, and deliver the best possible payment experience for Spotify’s global audience, today and in the future,” he said.
The collaboration highlights the growing role of AI-led payment optimisation as subscription platforms expand across diverse markets. Differences in consumer behaviour, payment preferences, and regulatory requirements can create challenges for global digital businesses. Solutions like Checkout.com’s Intelligent Acceptance aim to address these complexities, enabling companies such as Spotify to maintain smooth operations while scaling internationally.
By combining technology, local knowledge, and a broad acquiring network, Checkout.com and Spotify aim to provide a payment system that is reliable, secure, and adaptable, ensuring subscribers around the world can access content without interruption.
The partnership signals a continued trend of digital payment providers integrating advanced technology and AI tools to support large-scale global platforms, helping them improve conversion rates and reduce transaction failures while keeping security a top priority.
