In a major move to ease traffic congestion and enhance mobility, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is undertaking extensive road development projects, including a significant upgrade to Hessa Street and the construction of a new bridge in Nad Al Sheba.
As part of its ongoing infrastructure enhancements, the RTA is revamping key intersections along Hessa Street, a vital corridor that connects several prominent areas in the emirate. The development covers a 4.5-kilometre stretch intersecting with Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road.
One of the key features of the project is the expansion of Hessa Street from two lanes to four lanes in each direction. This will double its vehicle capacity from 8,000 to 16,000 cars per hour in both directions. The aim is to significantly reduce congestion, particularly during peak hours, and ensure smoother travel across residential and commercial zones. According to the RTA, more than 63 percent of the project has already been completed, with full completion expected in the first quarter of 2026.
In parallel, the RTA is preparing to launch construction on a new two-lane bridge in Nad Al Sheba. Spanning approximately 700 metres, the bridge will link the residential community directly to Dubai–Al Ain Road, catering to both existing and future traffic demands. The bridge will be capable of handling up to 2,600 vehicles per hour and is expected to reduce travel time from Dubai–Al Ain Road to Nad Al Sheba by 83 percent—from six minutes to just one.
The Nad Al Sheba area, which houses around 30,000 residents, will benefit significantly from the project by alleviating congestion and providing improved access in and out of the neighbourhood. Construction is set to begin in the final quarter of 2025, with completion targeted for the end of 2026.
Both projects form part of the RTA’s broader strategy to keep pace with Dubai’s rapid urban expansion and population growth. They also reflect the city’s commitment to maintaining high standards of road safety, improving transportation efficiency, and supporting the leadership’s vision of making Dubai one of the most livable and accessible cities in the world.
